Gettin’ Hitched

I’ve got this wedding on Saturday that I can’t miss, cause my fiance and her family would kill me.  Needless to say that I will be taking a short break from this here blog while I get married, not that too many will notice.Any who, be back in awhile.

How NOT to win friends…

and NOT influence people.

Denver could face a “dangerous situation” on the first day of the Democratic National Convention, war protesters said Thursday, after losing a coveted permit for Civic Center to the convention host committee.

“When things blow up because the police have to enforce a permit that the Democrats got, don’t blame us for that,” said Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer for the Re-create 68 Alliance.

Well, I think I will blame them for that.

Let’s see….a group named for, and glorifying a convention remembered for violence and riots is threatening to create a “dangerous situation.”  They also announced that they are going to break the law by marching “with or without permits.”  It sure sounds to me like they’re the ones “blowing things up.”

The interesting part is that these folks don’t know who their dealing with.  Maybe someone needs to remind them of a few things, like the Denver Police’s penchant for killing people.  Or maybe how the police tend to treat protesters that threaten violence (see: Columbus Day).  Finally, these people might want to read up on Colorado’s “Make My Day” law which allows lethal force by individuals who are defending their property, let alone themselves.  In short, if this group isn’t careful the only “blowing up” they’ll be doing will be to air mattresses outside local hospitals waiting for their wounded buddies to heal.

But what do I care? The ’68 convention led to the election of Richard Nixion and an era where 5 of the last 7 presidents have been Republican.  So go nuts people.  You’re the best advertisement for voting Republican imaginable.

When enabling goes wrong

This seems odd….

A 35-year-old woman who sat on her boyfriend’s toilet for so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time he called police had a phobia about leaving the bathroom, the boyfriend said.

”She is an adult; she made her own decision,” said her boyfriend, Kory McFarren. ”I should have gotten help for her sooner; I admit that. But after a while, you kind of get used to it.”

I’m not the type of guy to pry into another’s business, particularly when they’re doing, but I would have probably tried to get her help after about one or two days.  How long did Kory wait?

The case drew nationwide attention after Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the Ness City woman’s skin had grown around the seat in the two years she apparently was in the bathroom.

Two years?  TWO YEARS?!!!!

Dude, seriously.  I mean, I’m glad you brought her food and water and clothes, I also will note that you did try to get her out of there, but I can’t imagine there was not some point that it didn’t cross your mind to get some professional doctors to help you with the coaxing.

I don’t know about y’all, but if my fiance was staying in the bathroom for even two days, I’d have called every psychiatrist in the city to come and help.  I certainly wouldn’t have waited two years.  But hey, that’s just me.

Foppa is back!

Forsberg returns tonight!

Peter Forsberg will make his season debut for Colorado tonight against Vancouver, a much-needed boost for the injury-riddled Avalanche.

Peter the Great is, in my mind, one of the best players of all time.  His size, speed, toughness and creativity makes him impossible to stop.  It will be nice to see him back on the ice in Denver, even if he is a bit older.

Looks like I’ll be watching Altitude tonight.

GO AVS!!!!
