About Eric Wynalda and U.S. Soccer

The guy rubs lots of folk the wrong way, but it’s about time someone had the cojones to tell it like it is about U.S. Soccer.   The current players are talented but soft.  The USSF uses the “America hates soccer” crap to excuse poor performance and terrible management.  Finally, Wynalda understands that the U.S. should be kicking the crap out of most teams in the world even with the tallest, largest athletes playing other sports.

I don’t blame the U.S.  for not watching soccer, what with the terrible product the MLS produces and the lack of guts shown by the National Team.  It’s one thing to rough up Ecudor in a friendly, but quite another to actually show up to a World Cup and not look scared.

Soccer players in this country need to stop looking to the whiners around the globe for their role models and start looking up to guys like Wynalda so we can stop playing United Nations soccer and start playing soccer like….AMERICANS.

Girls do it again!

My highschool girls soccer team did it again!  A 4 – 0 win!  They played really well, particularly after a gruelling practice yesterday due to some discipline issues.  They don’t like me very much, but this win should ease the pain….a little.

Cathy Seipp, R.I.P.

I didn’t know her, but I read her nearly everyday.

These people knew her.  Their words are much better than mine.

A bad day, made worse

It’s been a tough day today that still has several hours remaining, but this hurts the worst.

I never talked with Cathy or Maia, but they’re certainly in my thoughts tonight.

A soccer announcement

Usually, when I blog about my high school varsity soccer teams it’s about the boys, not the girls.  That’s because the boys have played before and have experience.  Half my girls have never played, and the fact I even have eleven to play is an accomplishment.  Needless to say that the girls soccer team has never won a soccer game in the three year history of the school…

Until now.

A 2-1 win, on the road no less and I have to say I’ve never been prouder of a team I’ve coached.

Great job ladies!!!!

This is nuts…

Two stray cats got into a house and attacked three people inside…

I wondered if my cats could be capable of doing that, but they were too busy licking my empty beer bottles looking for a cheap buzz.  Thank goodness for that!

Happy Pi day

Yes, apparently today is “Happy Pi Day”.  To mark that occasion here in our Cow Town….

Q: What do you get when you take a bovine and divide its circumference by its diameter?

A: Cow pi.

You know you laughed…

When hallucinations attack….

….this happens….

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A man told police not to blame him for crashing his truck into a light post – it was that unicorn behind the wheel. Prosecutor Ingrid Rosenquist said Phillip C. Holliday Jr. initially denied driving the truck involved in the March 7 crash in Billings. He told officers at the scene that a unicorn was driving, she said.

When will we stop this senseless unicorn related violence?

No word on how Holliday’s mushroom salad tasted…

So, where have I been?

I know some people have been wondering “what the heck happened to Darren?”

Well, I’ve been busy.  Really busy.  Really, really busy.

Just to recap.  I am taking two grad school classes to try and finish my masters in Public Relations sometime this decade.  I also am the boys and girls varsity soccer coach at a high school here in Denver.  I also was roped into becoming the newspaper teacher/advisor/publisher at the high school.  And I’m also starting a new P.R. business.  We signed the lease this week and have been working on business plans, operating agreements, getting EINs and bank accounts.  Everything except P.R.

Needless to say it’s been a little crazy.  But I still read everyday.  I follow Dave and his American Idol recaps.  I still tune into Stacy to catch up on the latest news about hedgehog porn.

But I am making some changes to streamline my day.  I won’t be reading Ann Coulter anymore now that she’s taken up high diving off the deep end.  I won’t be covering too many sports anymore (unless they beg me to cover Broncos…and I mean down on their knees begging).  I’ll only be taking one grad school class a term cause more than one sucks.  And I plan on trying to post at least once a day.

It’s not a promise, but I promise to try.  Besides, I still post more than Mr. Mom who, of course, posts today for the first time in years.

I do have a big soccer game tonight up in Broomfield at 7:00p.  We’ll see what my girls can do.

Think of this as my Christmas letter…except more of a St. Patrick’s Day letter.
