I was going to applaud the Democrats for condemning “The Littlest Dictator’s” UN speech until I saw this.
Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a democrat, today defended Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s United Nations speech in which Chavez called President George Bush the devil. Harkin said the comments were “incendiary”, then went on to say, “Let me put it this way, I can understand the frustration, ah, and the anger of certain people around the world because of George Bush’s policies.”
I was prepared to give a whole heaping pile of praise to the Democrats. Pelosi and Rangel deserve to be praised for scolding Hugo Chavez, but Senator Harkin, did you know that reporters can’t report stories from the streets of Caracas because Chavistas threaten them? Did you know that Chavez’ corruption is so thorough that even the polling companies are all owned by loyal Chavistas? Perhaps, Senator, you knew that one of the highest unemployment fields in Venezuela is in medicine because Chavez has imported Cuban doctors to take the place of his own people. Oh, and don’t let me forget Senator that Hezbollah recruits and trains openly within Venezuela, creating an Islamic terror group hostile to us in our hemisphere…something the Truman (Democrat) Doctrine hoped to stop.
I understand you might be a little upset about your and my president Senator, that’s your right as an American. Losing your power and many consecutive elections can’t be good for your self esteem, but when you take the side of a tyrant who, before he was “elected” in a race where most other parties boycotted, started two coups, one of which saw F-16’s having dogfights over the capital, over your own president, I have nothing but disgust for you.
I’ve been to Iowa Senator Harkin, and I’m pretty sure that taking Chavez’ side over your country puts you on the wrong side of most of your constituents. I am a firm believer of Karma, and also of reaping what you sow, and when Chavez is exposed as the terror supporting dictator that most of South America realizes he is, I will look back at your support for him, and wonder how on Earth you could have gotten something so simple so, so wrong.
